Sabah to organise spate of events in December

KOTA KINABALU: A series of events will be held to showcase Sabah's cultural treasures through fun community activities to coincide with year-end celebrations here.

"We hope to bring Sabahans together as we celebrate the state's cultural diversity and to showcase it to the world," state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said at a press conference here on Monday (Dec 1).

Dubbed "Dec-Cover Sabah 2023," the programmes will be held around the state to showcase the region's diverse cultural treasures and spotlight Sabah as a premier tourist destination.

Describing the "discover" Sabah events lined up as "groundbreaking", Liew said events included the Sabah Tanah Airku Countdown Mega Run 2023 from Dec 23-31.

"It coincides with the Kembara Apresiasi Sabah Day covering 28 districts with 1,000 dedicated runners carrying the Sabah flag, culminating in a 200-hour journey to Kota Kinabalu," she said for the New Year countdown at Taman Rimba.

Other events planned include the Miss Merdeka Sabah 2023 pageant, a Battle of Buskers contest, the Borneo Culture Festival, Tamu-Bah showcasing local markets and Jelajah Sabah supported by Foodie.

She said her ministry was supporting the DEC-Cover Sabah Campaign that was being organised by private companies Rock Maestro Sdn Bhd and Awesome Borneo Holidays Sdn Bhd.

"It not only promises a vibrant year end event, but we hope to foster community engagement and amplify awareness of Sabah's cultural richness," she said.
