GLC CEO claims trial to four counts of bribery at Seremban court

SEREMBAN: Two individuals, including the chief executive officer of a government-linked company claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to four charges of receiving bribes totalling RM350,000.

The 52-year-old CEO, Mohd Zamry Sulaiman and self-employed Annuar Md Isa 54, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them separately before judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.

The bribes were allegedly to assist a company to secure a contract for upgrading works at Kompleks Bangunan Getah Asli in Kuala Lumpur.

For the first charge, Mohd Zamry was alleged to have been complicit with Annuar and received RM250,000 and RM100,00 in bribes from a 61-year-old individual.

This was an inducement to assist a company to carry out mechanical and electrical works at the building.

The offence was allegedly committed at a bank in Senawang near here on June 1 and Oct 11, 2022.

He was charged under Section 28(1)(c) of the Malaysian Anti Corruption act 2009 read together with Section 16(a)(A) and punishable under Section 24(1) of the same legislation.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the amount of the bribe involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Anuar was charged with receiving a RM350,000 bribe from the same individual at the same place and time.

The bribe was given via a cheque and allegedly banked into his account.

He was also charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the same legislation and if found guilty, punishable under Section 24(1).

Abd Muntaqim Abdul Aziz and Fatin Farhana Ismail from the MACC prosecuted while Mohd Zamry was represented by A.Ashok and V.Muniandy.

Azrul Zulkifli Stork appeared for Anuar.

The court then allowed the accused bail of RM5,000 each and ordered both to hand over their passports to the court. They were also told to report to the nearest MACC office on the first Saturday of every month.
