CHINA Press reported that a 27-year-old woman fell to her death from the 19th floor of a building in Jieyang, Guangdong province.

The woman, who had just given birth to a baby boy three months ago, was said to have gone through emotional abuse at her in-laws’ home.

Despite presenting a jia zhuang (bride dowry) of 188,000 yuan (RM122,494) to the groom’s family, her mother-in-law still disliked her because she did not buy her a bicycle and a house.

During her confinement, the victim was not allowed to turn on the air-conditioning. She also had to cook her own food and clean the house.

According to the daily, many in the vicinity threw eggs at the mother-in-law after learning about the incident.

Besides the police investigation, the case also attracted the attention of a local women’s group.

> Veteran Hong Kong singer and actress Maria Cordero was seen worshipping at the Nine Emperor Gods Temple in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, reported Sin Chew Daily.

A Facebook user uploaded her picture to her page with the caption: “Fei Ma (Fat Mama, Cordero’s moniker) came to Nan Tian Gong Temple to offer prayers to the Nine Emperor Gods.”

In the picture, the 69-year-old was seen dressed in white clothes and wearing glasses.

Several users commented that Cordero was very friendly as she smiled and greeted those who recognised her at the temple.

Many also said Cordero was pious, as she had come from Hong Kong to worship the Nine Emperor Gods.

Shortly after the trip, Cordero uploaded a picture of her in a wheelchair at the Hong Kong International Airport on her Facebook page.

Apparently, she had sprained her leg, which led to other users expressing concerns over her condition.

The caption of the photo read: “It’s all because I was too anxious and careless, that I twisted and couldn’t walk.”

Fortunately, the injury was not too serious. In the picture, Cordero seemed to be in good spirits despite the injury.
