Jepak polls: S'wak premier, Deputy Premiers turn up ahead of candidate nomination

BINTULU: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has arrived along with several Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders in support of its candidate in the Jepak by-election.

The coalition is fielding former Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) director Iskandar Turkee as its candidate for the state seat.

Abang Johari arrived at the Nomination Centre at the Civic Centre at about 8.35am along with Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Aside from the three, state Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah is also present along with Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum and State Legislative Assembly Speaker Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

About 1,000 GPS members carrying party flags had gathered at the Federation of Sarawak Women's Associations at about 7am before proceeding to the Civic Centre.

The by-election has been called following the death of six-term assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilp on September 15 at the age of 72 due to health complications.

The Election Commission has fixed November 4 for polling.
