Sabah SPM top scorers awarded PETRONAS education sponsorship


KOTA KINABALU: A total of 116 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022 top scorers from Sabah have been rewarded for their hard work after being selected to receive the PETRONAS education sponsorship this year.

These students were among the 600 SPM 2022 high achievers nationwide awarded the sponsorship which comes under the company's Powering Knowledge programme to pursue tertiary education.

The students may undertake their varsity-level studies at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and other leading local and overseas universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan and South Korea.

PETRONAS chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh, together with senior vice president (project delivery and technology) Datuk Bacho Pilong, presented the sponsorship to the recipients at a ceremony in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Oct 14.

"PETRONAS believes that investing in education and human capital development at all levels will enable a continuous and sustainable pipeline of talent.

"PETRONAS Powering Knowledge is our commitment to champion the pursuit of knowledge among students and educators.

"We support their quest for quality education and are devoted to empowering them to strive for progress and impact in a rapidly changing world," said Mohd Bakke in his speech.

As the company advances its digital transformation, PETRONAS will also continue to sponsor students in the fields of data science and data engineering.

Among those who attended the award presentation ceremony were Sabah Public Service Department director-general Datuk Zainuddin Aman and PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan head Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab.
