Nga: EVCB operators must register with local councils

KUALA LUMPUR: Operators of the existing 1,267 electric vehicle charging bays (EVCBs) in the country will have to register with the local authorities, says Nga Kor Ming.

“They will be given two years to apply for validation of the EVCBs with their respective local councils,” the Local Government Development Minister told reporters at the launch of the Planning Guidelines for EVCBs at the media centre in Parliament yesterday.

He said this was one of the requirements following the implementation of the guidelines to standardise the development of EVCBs in the country.

He assured the public that existing EVCBs were safe for use as they were set up according to safety rules under the Fire and Rescue Department.

He also said his ministry and the Town and Country Planning Department or PLANMalaysia would launch the National Electric Vehicle Dashboard on Nov 1 to allow investors to decide where to set up EVCBs.

So far, Ng said, 10,596 locations had been identified as suitable locations for investors to set up their EVCBs, with more to join the list.

“Users can also check the ministry website for the latest news on EVCBs,” he said, adding that the government had targeted to have more EVCBs to be set up nationwide.
