PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's Nuclear Technology Policy 2030 (DTNN) is a long-term strategic plan to develop the country's nuclear technology, says Chang Li Kang.
"It creates a path for the country to move beyond 2030 by focusing on strengthening the nuclear technology ecosystem which could contribute to the nation and the people's progress," said the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister on Facebook on Wednesday (Oct 11).
"The frequent questions asked are regarding the ministry's plan to increase the use of nuclear technology from 20% with industry investment of RM1bil to 40% with an investment value of RM2.4bil in 2030 as outlined in DTNN," said Chang, who added the policy excludes nuclear technology as an energy source.
Chang said six factors will be given priority in the quest to increase the usage of nuclear technology and to increase the value of export products and supporting services.
"They were the ability to use nuclear technology in medical and health services, food and agriculture, manufacturing of tools and devices, environment management and natural resources, industrial application, and safety and nuclear security.
He said the strategic implementation and initiatives of DTNN 2030 will be initiated with the cooperation of various stakeholders, public and private, to ensure the development of nuclear technology meets the country's socio-economic needs.
"This includes opening up new economic opportunities and jobs," added Chang.
