KUALA LUMPUR: Four men have been arrested in connection with a string of vehicle thefts here and in Serdang.

City police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said a team from Sentul CID's D4 division raided a workshop in Klang on Sept 18 and arrested three Myanmar nationals and a local man.

"During the raid, they also seized 15 engine blocks and four car chassis worth at least RM83,000.

"Our checks revealed the syndicate was masterminded by a 42-year-old local man, who has a prior record for vehicle theft," he told reporters on Thursday.

He said checks revealed the cars were stolen before they were cannibalised for parts.

"Further investigations revealed the engines were sold for between RM5,000 and RM7,000 each.

None of the foreigners or the workshop operator who were arrested have prior criminal records," he said, adding that investigations have linked at least 15 vehicle theft cases to this syndicate.

He said five cases were reported in Sentul, three at Cheras, two at Wangsa Maju and one at Brickfields while four other cases were reported in Serdang.

"We are now looking for a man known as 'Liew Chin Kang' to help the investigation into the syndicate. His last known address is 12, Jalan 4/2A, Taman Wilayah Selayang, Batu Caves.

"We believe this individual can help shed more light into the operations of the syndicate," he said, adding that the four suspects have been handed over to Serdang police for further investigations.

Comm Allaudeen urged those with information on the suspect to contact the Sentul police headquarters operations room at 03-4048 2222.
