Ipoh teens claim trial to raping schoolgirl

IPOH: Two teenagers have been charged at the Magistrate's Court here with raping a 14-year-old girl.

The two accused, aged 16 and 17, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them before Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan on Friday (Sept 22).

Each was slapped with two charges under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for rape.

They were accused of committing the offences at a house in Kampung Sindu at 4.30pm on Sept 15 and 9.30am on Sept 16.

If convicted, they could face jail of up to 20 years and whipping.

Farah set bail at RM3,000 with one surety and Nov 1 for mention for both accused.

Mohamad Khazali Yin, who represented both accused, asked for lower bail and said the 16-year-old's mother was a teacher while his father was a lorry driver.

"The bail is only to ensure his attendance at court.

"They (the parents) will pay the bail," he said, adding that the boy was still schooling.

"As for the (17-year-old accused), he dropped out when he was 16.

"His 44-year-old mother is unemployed while his father passed away in 2020," he said, adding that the boy was the eldest of five siblings.

"The mother is relying on her late husband's Socso (benefits)," he added.

Insp N. Ganesan prosecuted.
