KOTA KINABALU: Over 400 decorated automobiles are ready to help usher in the 60th Malaysia Day celebration here this year.

The parade will be held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) this Sunday (Sept 17), a day after the actual Malaysia Day on Saturday (Sept 16).

A total of 18 car clubs and communities are set to participate in this extravagant parade to ignite public interest in the world of automotive culture.

On Tuesday (Sept 12), the Cars and Urban Lifestyle Trends (CULT) event organiser, led by John Kong, met with Sabah Tourism Board chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai to brief him on the CULT Malaysia Day Parade and its upcoming car show.

Commencing at 3pm, the CULT Malaysia Day event will kick off with a striking car parade, followed by a special rollout party scheduled for 6.30pm.

“The primary goal of this event is to foster patriotism, instilling a deep sense of love, devotion, and unity for Malaysia,” Kong said.

Beyond the parade, he said, attendees can look forward to enjoyable activities for children, awards for the best-dressed Malaysia Day participants, and a remarkable display of cars.

“This event serves as a precursor to our highly anticipated second edition of the CULT Carshow in November,” he added, highlighting the enthusiastic participation from countries like Thailand and Indonesia.

Emphasising the event's significance in Sabah's cultural landscape, Bangkuai said the event acts as a vital stepping stone to firmly position Sabah on the map for automotive culture and major event management.

“In our pursuit of showcasing Sabah's vibrant culture and diverse attractions, it's essential for Sabah Tourism Board to actively support and promote such homegrown events that not only enrich our cultural tapestry but also contribute to the growth of our tourism industry,” he said.
