Heavy traffic expected at Woodlands, Tuas land checkpoints from Aug 31

SINGAPORE: Heavy traffic is expected at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints in the lead-up to and during the period from Aug 31 to Sept 11, 2023, as Singaporeans cross into Malaysia ahead of the long weekend and school holidays in September.

The Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said as observed during the recent June school holidays, there was continuous heavy traffic at the land checkpoints with close to 250,000 departing travellers at the start of the holidays on June 1, 2023.

"During the weekend of June 16 to June 18, 2023, more than 1.2 million travellers, averaging more than 400,000 crossings per day, used the land checkpoints.

"Those who departed by car had to wait up to three hours before they were cleared through immigration during peak periods,” it said in its website.

Travellers to Malaysia are thus advised to factor in additional waiting time for immigration clearance, especially over the weekends, said the Authority. - Bernama
