Elmina crash: Late Pelangai assemblyman laid to rest in Gombak


GOMBAK: The body of Pelangai assemblyman and Pahang exco member Datuk Seri Johari Harun has been buried.

At around 11.45am, the casket arrived under police escort to the Raudhatul Sakinah burial ground, here.

The body was buried without incident at 12.15pm.

Among those that were present included Umno president and deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

On Thursday (Aug 17) Johari was one of eight people on board a light aircraft who were killed after the plane crashed near the Elmina Township in Selangor.

An e-hailing driver and a food delivery rider on the road were also killed when the plane crashed.

The other victims were identified as pilots Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim; passengers Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Mohamad Naim Fawwaz Mohamed Muaidi, Muhammad Taufiq Mohd Zaki and Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali

The road users killed in the crash were Muhamad Hafiz and Sharipuddin Shaari.

The incident occurred at about 2.40pm after the aircraft, which took off from Langkawi, was cleared to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

It crashed into Persiaran Elmina after losing communication with the control tower.

Speaking to reporters after the funeral, Muhammad Hafiz Naqiuddin said that he cherished all 22 years he had to spend with his father.

"All of my years with him were 'moments'. The good and the bad. All I can ask for is for all Malaysians to pray for my late father," he said.

He added that his father was a man who was easily approchable and valued charity.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that he had lost a good friend.

"The country has lost a great leader. Datuk Johari and I were good friends and the last time we met was last month. On a personal level he has a polite demeanour and has never raised his voice while speaking. I actually had plans to go to Langkawi yesterday (Saturday) and we were supposed to have coffee and catch up there.
