Chow sworn in for second term

GEORGE TOWN: Padang Kota assemblyman Chow Kon Yeow has been sworn in to serve a second term as Penang Chief Minister at Seri Mutiara here.

He took his oath before the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak at the governor’s official residence yesterday morning.

Chow, 65, pledged to fulfil his duties as Chief Minister and to preserve, protect and defend the state constitution.

“I solemnly swear that I will not divulge to anyone directly or indirectly any matter that is brought to my consideration or that will be known to me as the head of the state except when it may be required of me to fulfil my duties as Chief Minister,” he said.

He was first made Chief Minister in 2018, with the state DAP chairman taking over from Lim Guan Eng after the latter had completed two terms.

Chow had previously been the state exco member in charge of local government, traffic management and flood mitigation since 2008.

He had won the Tanjong and Padang Kota parliamentary and state seats, respectively, in the general election.
