State polls: Perikatan’s Hilman retains Gombak Setia seat by 58 votes

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional’s Hilman Idham has officially retained the Gombak Setia seat in Selangor with a razor-thin majority of 58 votes in the state polls.

He garnered 30,299 votes over Barisan Nasional’s Megat Zulkarnain Omardin who won 30,241 votes, while Independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali received 1,076 votes.

Out of the 88,480 total voters in Gombak Setia, the turnout was 70.35%.

Previously, Hilman had stood under the Pakatan Harapan-PKR banner in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The Hilman-Megat Zulkarnain match up was a highly-anticipated one as Gombak Setia is one of Selangor's hotly-contested seats.

Megat Zulkarnain and Hilman had previously faced off during GE14 for the same seat.

At the time, Hilman beat Megat Zulkarnain and a PAS candidate in a three-cornered fight.

In 2020, Hilman left PKR to join Perikatan’s Bersatu; he was former Selangor mentri besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s political secretary.

Gombak Setia is one of three seats under the Gombak parliamentary constituency with Sungai Tua and Hulu Kelang being the two other seats.
