State polls: Galas, Kota Lama wins positive sign, says Kelantan Umno chief

KOTA BARU: The unity coalition's wins in Galas and Kota Lama is a positive sign of great things in the future, says Kelantan Umno chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

Ahmad Jazlan said that Barisan Nasional-Pakatan Harapan is happy about their victory in the two seats and added that it is too early for the unity coalition to show people their true value.

"The unity government has only been in power for eight months and I'm sure they will do more to convince people in the near future," he said at a press conference at the Umno building here.

In regards to the seven Barisan seats that were taken by Perikatan Nasional, Ahmad Jazlan said they will carry out a post-mortem to discuss it further.

"We found that the voters for this state elections are the same as last year's general election and they didn't change,” he said.

"They simply didn't like our manifesto this time and preferred Perikatan's offers more. We accept this with an open heart," added Ahmad Jazlan.

Perikatan stole the Nenggiri, Paloh, Ayer Lanas, Bukit Bunga, Kuala Balah, Gual Ipoh and Kok Lanas seats previously held by Barisan.

However, Ahmad Jazlan said he is glad they weren't completely swept and added that he will make sure to capitalise on their wins.

"We congratulate Perikatan for their victory and hope they will fulfil the promises in their manifesto," he said.

Perikatan has officially won the Kelantan state elections by winning 43 seats while Barisan-Pakatan won two.
