PETALING JAYA: Muda has confirmed that Mohamad Iswan Ishak will no longer contest under its ticket in Repah, Negri Sembilan for the state polls.

“Even though he had been announced as Muda’s candidate for N.36 Repah, following discussions, he has made the decision to retract his candidacy due to personal reasons.

“We wish to thank Iswan for the teamwork he has given and wish him the best of luck,” said the party election committee in a statement on Friday (July 28).

When contacted, Muda secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi said that Iswan, who is a social media influencer, was not a party member.

“He was among those who joined our online campaign earlier to democratise the candidate selection process,” he added.

The social media influencer had gotten brickbats recently following the resurgence of an old video where he made jokes while a friend pretended to be a disabled person in order to park at a designated lot. He has since apologised for the video.

Meanwhile, in a TikTok video, he confirmed that he would not stand in the state election.

“I will focus on matters I need to learn before becoming a public representative.

“I will continue to voice out issues in my area, which is Repah, not as a representative but as a regular citizen,” he said.
