Promote national unity by flying the Jalur Gemilang, says PM Anwar

IPOH: Flying the Jalur Gemilang is one way to promote unity, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In his speech that was read by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof when launching the National Month and Fly Jalur Gemilang 2023 celebrations at the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout at Meru Raya here on Sunday (July 16), he said flying the flag shows the people's love for their country, enhancing a sense of togetherness.

Anwar said having unity was a very valuable blessing and an important asset to the country.

"Therefore, it needs to be nurtured and preserved so that Malaysia's independence continues to be defended.

"The Jalur Gemilang will be seen everywhere during the National Month," he said.

"Like the saying 'Bersatu kita teguh, bercerai kita roboh' (United we stand, Divided we fall), it is enough to describe how much we need to be united.

"Be it by individuals or organisations, let's fly the Jalur Gemilang," he added.

Anwar said the people, as a citizen, should feel fortunate to be part of a country that is sovereign and independent.

"The blessing of independence should be appreciated, where we can live comfortably, harmoniously and prosperously and tolerate establishing relations between races.

"History has proven that the greatness of an empire is not only based on a wise leadership but the spirit of identity and togetherness of its people," he said.

"Show our pride in the country by flying the symbol of the greatness of our country and show our love for the country by practising pure values in everyday life," he added.
