Snatch theft ring busted in KL, three nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: A snatch theft gang was busted with the arrests of three men.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the suspects aged between 19 and 21 were detained on July 5.

"One of their cases in Sri Muda, Shah Alam had gone viral on social media recently.

"We believe they are responsible for four cases in Kuala Lumpur and one in Shah Alam," he told a press conference at Sentul police headquarters on Friday (July 7).

Several pieces of clothing and a motorcycle used by the suspects were also seized, he said.

"The group's modus operandi is to target victims on motorcycles.

"One of the suspects would ride a motorcycle and approach a victim while another suspect, who is riding pillion, would snatch the victim's valuables.

"The mastermind is a 20-year-old man, who is among those arrested," he said.

The gang had been active since January, he said.

"Two of the suspects have several prior criminal records," he added.
