A LETTER – with its letterhead bearing the logo from the Ghostbusters movie franchise – certifying that a property in Selangor was not haunted went viral online, reported Sin Chew Daily.
The letter dated June 1, purportedly by the Malaysian Paranormal Activity Research group, said the owner of the house in Bandar Botanic, Klang may have committed suicide in 2021 but “has apparently left no major signs of ghostly activities at the time of observation”.
After performing an initial assessment between 9pm and midnight on May 30, the group said it concluded that the flickering lights in the house were due to faulty cables and doors opening and closing by themselves due to the wind.
A picture of the letter that had been posted at the property was widely shared online, which amused many people.
Some joked that the group should have stayed past 3am as that was believed to be the peak hour for paranormal activities.
When contacted, a property agent with the surname Ye said he was uncertain who had posted the letter in front of the property.
He admitted that the bank had had trouble auctioning the house following rumours that it was haunted.
The bank even hired Chinese priests to perform prayers there in a bid to “cleanse” the house of evil spirits, he said, adding that it was rare to see a bank hiring priests to perform prayers.
The semi-detached house is being auctioned off at a floor price of RM1.4mil against an estimated market value of RM2.4mil.
> Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao Ching-Teng’s fiancée Summer Lin, to whom he proposed in June, was rumoured to be pregnant after being spotted in public with what appears to be a baby bump, reported Sin Chew Daily.
The happy couple was photographed clinging to each other while on the way to Hsiao’s shoot for season five of the reality TV series Dunk of China.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted a visible baby bump through Lin’s T-shirt and suspected that she was pregnant. Some considered the rumours to be confirmed as Hsiao repeatedly called Lin “mama” when he got down on his knees to propose on June 26.
