PETALING JAYA: Zoo Melaka is inviting the public to help name its newest arrival – a male black panther cub born at the zoo.
The cub was born on July 22 through natural breeding to six-year-old female Beting and 11-year-old male Tommy, according to a post on Zoo Melaka's official Facebook page on Wednesday (Sept 30).
Weighing 1.09kg at birth, the cub has since grown into a healthy and active youngster.
"As of Tuesday (Sept 29), he was two months and seven days old and was seen increasingly spending time under the watchful care of his mother," it said.
The zoo described the cub's development as healthy, with the young animal becoming more active as it grows.
Now, Zoo Melaka is turning to the public for another important task, finding the cub a name.
"Can you guess what name would suit our new baby boy?" the zoo said in the post, inviting users to suggest a suitable name for the new arrival.
The post was accompanied by photographs of the cub with striking blue-grey eyes, rounded ears and dark coat.
It quickly attracted attention online, garnering more than 3,000 reactions and hundreds of comments within hours.
A variety of names were suggested, including T'chaka, Taming Sari, Wakanda, Bintang, Kasturi and Arang, while others simply expressed their delight at seeing the young cub.
One commenter even suggested the name "Taming" by combining part of the parents' names.
