CHUKAI: Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to contest 45% of the 245 seats up for grabs in the upcoming six state elections while the remaining seats will be contested by Pakatan Harapan, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The BN chairman said the decision was made based on the seats won by the two coalitions during the previous general election.
"This is based on the existing state seats, which were won by Pakatan, that is why its component parties are contesting more seats.
"We will announce the full breakdown when the final decision is made," he told reporters at a sacrifical event in Pantai Penunjuk here Saturday (July 1).
The Deputy Prime Minister also said BN would contest more than 100 seats in the coming six state elections and that the final decision would be made by him and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim soon.
The upcoming state elections involve 56 seats in Selangor, Kelantan (45), Penang (40), Kedah (36), Negri Sembilan (36) and Terengganu (32).
"The Prime Minister and I will discuss it for the final time next week, overlapping areas will also be discussed," Ahmad Zahid added. - Bernama
