Man arrested in plane at Senai International Airport over moneylending case


JOHOR BARU: A 28-year-old man has been arrested while on a plane after arriving at the Senai International Airport here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that the man, believed to be involved in a moneylending case, was arrested on Wednesday (June 21).

"A video related to the arrest went viral on social media on Friday (June 23).

"The police were carrying out their duties to locate the suspect, who was a passenger flying from the northern part of the country.

"The arrest was made following information and intelligence we have gathered earlier," he said in a statement here.

He said the man was being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Section 4(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

ACP Raub said police have also arrested four other men between the ages of 21 and 30 believed to be involved in the same case.

He said the suspects were being remanded for four days, starting from Thursday (June 22), to assist investigations.

"We urge the public to be careful and not be anxious about the viral video.

"We also hope that those with information on any criminal activities to contact the Johor Baru South police directly at 07-218 2323," he said.

Earlier, a 12-second video went viral on TikTok where several men wearing police vests were seen in a plane.

As of press time, the video has received over 50,000 likes and shared more than 2,000 times.
