KUALA LUMPUR: Over 100 abandoned private housing projects were restored across the country as of April, says Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
The Deputy Local Housing and Development Minister said a total of 118 private housing projects received their certificate of completion and compliance.
"Of the number, 20 projects consisting of 2,749 units were successfully recovered from the period of March 31 until April 30 where the Gross Development Value (GDV) was valued at RM2.722bil," he said in a press conference at Parliament media room on Tuesday (June 6).
Akmal said the ministry’s special task force dealing with abandoned or "sick" housing developments had identified 141 delayed projects, 481 sick projects and 112 abandoned projects as of April 30.
So far, the task force managed to resolve utility issues for 21 "sick" housing projects with the cooperation of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).
"The meeting with TNB found 44 'sick' housing developments with issues related to the utility company on May 22," he said.
Akmal added that the ministry would continue its engagements with other technical agencies such as the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) to discuss related housing projects that were affected by issues involving their respective agencies.
On May 29, Akmal said the number of delayed, "sick" and abandoned private housing projects was expected to increase due to the effects of the movement control order, which saw development projects halted to curb the spread of Covid-19.
