PUTRAJAYA: Government agencies have been give deadlines to act on recommendations against graft made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), says Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
The Chief Secretary to the Government said some ministries were already doing so after (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said misconduct by government personnel had been ignored by their respective department heads.
Mohd Zuki, however, did not specify the time given to agencies to act.
“I believe there are actions taken. I will ask the Public Service Department to provide further details on this,” he said
“In fact, reports by MACC which require disciplinary action had already been taken,” he said to reporters at the Prime Minister's Department Hari Raya open house on Wednesday (May 17).
Meanwhile, cases where misconduct involved corruption were dealt with by the MACC itself, he added.
Azam was reported to have said that some government agencies have been sweeping reports of misconduct involving their own under the rug, despite the MACC recommending them to address the problem.
Azam had said that it was common practice to notify heads of departments of possible wrongdoing by their subordinates.
According to him, graft busters were still waiting for government agencies to follow up on at least 500 of such reports, some of which were submitted as far back as 12 years ago.
The bulk of the reports involve the police, followed by the Road Transport Department.
