DAP's presence at unity meet will scare away some Umno members, claims Annuar Musa

PETALING JAYA: DAP's "appearance" at the unity government national convention held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) on Sunday (May 14) will drive some members to leave Umno, claims Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The former Umno secretary-general said that the move will also scare away a large segment of Malay voters in the upcoming state elections and the 16th General Election.

"The participation of DAP at WTC will drive away thousands of voters, including some Umno members.

"Umno may be rejected in the upcoming state elections as well as the general election," he said in a Facebook post Monday (May 15).

At the national unity government convention, political leaders under the unity government, including DAP leaders, had made an unprecedented appearance while giving speeches at the Dewan Merdeka Hall.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Unity Government National Convention had solidified his coalition and proved to the public that he was the man for the job, and thereby made it difficult for his opponents to topple the government.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke admitted that he had never dreamed of delivering a speech at Umno's headquarters.

"I am nervous and I am sure my fellow DAP members, including the vice-chairman Gobind Singh, had similar sentiments," he shared.

The convention on Sunday was attended by 19 parties and four pacts within the coalition government: Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, among others.
