PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang should retire from politics and live out their golden years in peace, says Progressive Democratic Party president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
He said that Abdul Hadi and his party members had made statements that could sow division among the people.
Tiong cited a previous comment by Abdul Hadi last year in which the PAS president claimed that the root cause of corruption in the country was due to the influence that non-Malays had over the economy and politics.
Last week, Abdul Hadi also posted on Facebook to explain his support for Dr Mahathir’s Malay Proclamation, saying that non-Muslims and non-Malays are the cause of corruption.
In a statement, Tiong said it was not a good idea to single out any race on one’s political agenda.Such political manoeuvres would not improve any situation, he said, adding that they would instead damage the country’s unity and breed hatred among the people.
