Johor cops seize contraband liquor worth over RM35,000, two arrested


MUAR: Two local men were arrested for allegedly smuggling liquor with unpaid duties worth RM35,780.25 in Bakri near here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Mukhliz Azman said the suspects aged 40 and 48, were detained at 5.30pm on Thursday (May 4).

“Our men had been following a driver of a white Toyota Alphard who was behaving suspiciously when patrolling the Bakri area,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Mukhliz Azman said the suspects were remanded for five days from May 5 until May 9 to assist with investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) of the Customs Act 1967.

He also denied any interference from external parties on the case, adding that the investigation was being done transparently based on existing procedures.

“I would like to advise those with information on any smuggling activities in Muar district to contact the police and not trust any unverified news or sources,” said ACP Mukhliz.
