After initial defiance, teacher apologises for slap and quits

A TEACHER who slapped a pupil at a school in Kulai has apologised and resigned, bringing a close to the matter, reported China Press.

The SJK (C) Sawit parent-teacher association (PTA) told reporters the teacher met with the pupil’s mother on Sunday at school and apologised for his actions.

“The 40-year-old English and Physical Education teacher has since resigned,” said PTA chairman Huang Fu Long, adding the mother had accepted the apology.

It was earlier reported that the incident went viral on Facebook after the mother shared photos of her son’s cut lip as a result of the teacher’s actions in April.

It was believed the pupil was slapped for playing around when class was in session.

Rather than apologising, the teacher retaliated against the pupil after the post became widely shared online.

“Does your mother plan on becoming an online influencer? I heard she wants to hire the ‘mafia’ to beat me up?” he allegedly told the pupil.

The teacher’s brazen behaviour sparked speculation that the school was protecting him.

Huang denied the accusations.

“I want to clarify that the school, the board, and the PTA have never tried to cover up the case,” he said.

> Hong Kong fans of Jay Chou, who failed to get tickets to his sold-out concert, resorted to creative ways to catch a glimpse of the singer, including climbing fences and renting yachts, reported Sin Chew Daily.

It was reported that all seven concert dates (a total of 140,000 tickets) on the island were sold out and resale tickets were going for as much as five figures each.
