Senior citizen dies after being slashed in pre-dawn robbery at home


IPOH: A 69-year-old man was killed during a robbery at his home in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said the victim is believed to have died from slash wounds during the 6am Friday (April 17) incident.

"The victim's wife was in the porch area preparing for prayers when three men climbed over the walls and rushed into their home.

"The victim and his wife were both threatened and told to hand over their jewellery," he said in a statement.

"The victim was seriously injured after being slashed with a sharp object, possibly a machete, on his right hand and left palm.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene," he added.

ACP Chua said the three suspects are believed to have fled with some jewellery and money.

"The amount taken is still being investigated.

"We are looking for the three men, believed to be in their 20s and 30s," he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"Those with information about the incident are urged to go to the nearest police station or call 05-622 2222.

"We also advise the public to improve the security of their homes, including installing additional security systems while ensuring that the surrounding area is always safe," he added.
