SUNGAI PETANI: The decomposing body of a woman was found in a drain in the back alley of a row of houses in Taman Perpaduan here on Saturday (May 6).
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Zaidy Che Hassan told Astro Awani that the police had received a report on the matter at 5.47pm from a nearby resident.
"A team of officers was dispatched to the location and discovered a woman's body dressed only in a caftan with no underclothes.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the resident who alerted the police had smelled a foul smell in the rear of his house.
"Thinking that the stench came from his bathroom, the witness cleaned it thoroughly but the foul smell remained.
"On opening his backdoor, the witness noticed the body in the drain and alerted the police," ACP Zaidy told Astro Awani.
He added that the Kedah contingent Forensics Unit had investigated the scene and the woman's body was sent to Sultan Abdul Halim hospital for a post-mortem.
He added that anyone with missing family members or with information on the case should contact the nearest police station.
ACP Zaidy told Astro Awani that the case was currently classified as Sudden Death while awaiting the post-mortem results. Investigations are ongoing, he added.
