Over RM400mil in assets frozen

KUALA LUMPUR: Assets worth about RM409mil have been frozen or seized in police investigations into an alleged “corporate mafia” syndicate, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said the assets comprised eight properties, 11 vehicles, 417 Central Depository System accounts, 70 stock-trading accounts involving about RM323.59mil and 404 bank accounts containing approximately RM85.62mil.

As of Sept 25, 70 individuals had been called in to have their statements recorded, he added.

“Police have taken action, including the arrest of several individuals and the freezing and seizure of various assets believed to be linked to the activities under investigation,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.

He was responding to Pengkalan Chepa MP Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary who asked about the scope and latest status of the police investigation into allegations of a “corporate mafia” syndicate following the Cabinet’s directive for a comprehensive probe.

Saifuddin Nasution said no Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers had been identified among those involved in the investigation or as requiring assistance in the probe, based on the backgrounds and identities of those called in to give statements.

He added that investigations under Op Viking were ongoing, with police working to complete the investigation papers.

On a separate matter, Saifuddin Nasution said 2,097 police officers and personnel had been arrested for drug-related offences, robbery and corruption between 2021 and August this year.

Of the total, 1,551 were arrested for drug offences, 64 for robbery and 482 by the MACC, he said in a written parliamentary reply to Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.

Saifuddin Nasution added that the drug-related arrests were made under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The highest number of drug-related arrests was recorded in 2021, involving 357 police officers and personnel, followed by 310 in 2024.

“A total of 248 personnel were arrested in 2022, 245 in 2023 and 256 in 2025, while another 135 were arrested between January and August this year.

“As for robbery offences, 64 police officers and personnel were arrested over the same period,” he said.

The annual breakdown showed 10 arrests each in 2021 and 2022, 11 in 2023, 13 in 2024, and 10 each in 2025 and the first eight months of 2026.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the MACC had arrested 482 police officers and personnel between 2021 and August this year, with the highest number recorded in 2023, at 129.

This was followed by 87 arrests in 2025, 86 in 2022, 77 in 2021 and 53 in 2024, while 50 personnel were arrested between January and August this year.
