Anwar: Spend this time with your loved ones

PETALING JAYA: All Malaysians should use the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration as an opportunity to visit their loved ones to forge stronger bonds, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Let us use this time to create close relations, visit each other and increase the sense of kindness among us,” he said.

Anwar said the principles of discipline and kindness practised by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan would be central to the government’s best practices.

“We will remain strict in restoring dignity and integrity, and rejecting all forms of wrongdoing so that we can ensure the welfare of the people and restore the dignity of the people,” he said last night in a message in conjunction with Hari Raya.

Anwar also paid tribute to all civil servants, and wished all Malaysians “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri” on behalf of himself, his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and his family.

Earlier yesterday, he denied that the Malaysia Madani Aidilfitri open houses in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu were being held in the three PAS-led states because of the upcoming state polls.

In dismissing such allegations, Anwar said many other states, including Selangor, would be holding similar Hari Raya events.

“Many states, Selangor too ... No, no (not only in Opposition-held states),” he told reporters briefly at Masjid As-Salam, Pangsapuri Petaling Permai, where the Prime Minister performed Friday prayers together with the community there.

He was asked whether the government had deliberately chosen these states as they were controlled by the Opposition and would be holding their state elections in the next few months.

On Thursday, the Prime Minister’s Department announced that the Malaysia Madani open house with the Prime Minister in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 would be held in Kedah on April 29, Kelantan (May 12) and Terengganu (May 13).

It also said Anwar was expected to attend three other open house events in Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan.
