Prisoners must meet set criteria to be allowed home for Raya, says Prisons Dept

PETALING JAYA: There are a few criteria that prisoners under Licensed Prisoner Release (OBB) program have to meet to be allowed to go home during the Hari Raya period.

The Prisons Department said in a statement on Tuesday (April 18) that there are three criteria, namely at institutional level, followed by the committee at the state level and subsequently the Prisons Dept headquarters level for prisoners to be released under license (PBSL).

Those who have carried out their sentence for less than a year, completed a third of their jail term, undergoing rehabilitation programs in prison or have been guaranteed a job or place to stay by employers, family and NGO – are the one who will be considered for the program.

The department added that prisoners released under license will be monitored by the district parole officer through home visits, workplace visits and calls.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Ihsan Madani OBB program, which will involve some 1,000 prisoners will be implemented in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
