THE elderly couple whose work on rehabilitating wild elephants in Tamil Nadu, India, was popularised in an Oscar-winning documentary has been given round-the-clock police protection, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Their work and bond with an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu at the Mudumalai National Park who survived and grew to be a healthy juvenile was captured in The Elephant Whisperers.
Bomman and Bellie became overnight celebrities after the documentary received critical acclaim and won awards.
The two, who are scheduled to receive a visit from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this week, have received police protection ahead of the event.
