MELAKA: A hotelier is continuing his tradition of organising charitable events to spread kindness during the holy month of Ramadan.
Bayou Lagoon Park Resort CEO Datuk Marco Seow said the initiative of spreading compassion and empathy was initiated by his late father, Datuk Seow Cho Thoy, when the hotel started its operations back in 2012.
“This year, I intend to launch a number of programmes related to humanitarian and disaster relief, health, social and community development, and environmental conservation.
“As a Malaysian, I want to do my small part during this special month,” he said in an interview.
Seow said he would first organise a Ramadan buffet for orphans by working together with a charity-based association from Tangga Batu.
“We will also invite the less fortunate and senior citizens to savour our Ramadan spread at our resort.”
Seow said his intention in organising Ramadan programmes was also to foster closer ties and instil a sense of community sharing.
“I also want to continue the legacy of my late father in giving back to society, especially to the needy, as part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said.
He said these initiatives continued in 2020 and 2021, albeit on a smaller scale, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
“My father always taught me from a young age that as Malaysians, we must celebrate all festivities by holding a significant event at our hotel and distributing financial aid to the poor and less fortunate.”
Next month, Seow plans to host a Hari Raya gathering for children with serious illnesses as well as senior citizens, which will be attended by Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam.
