Two-lorry accident causes pile-up on North-South Expressway near Ipoh

IPOH: An accident involving two container lorries has caused traffic to grind to a halt at KM325.5 northbound of the North-South Expressway (PLUS).

In a post on its official Twitter account, PLUS said that the accident is believed to have occurred at about 3.45am on Sunday (Mar 12), and caused a 2km-long traffic jam.

When contacted, Tapah OCPD Superintendent Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said one of the trucks had some problems and was parked at the emergency lane.

"The container had blocked half of the left lane. Another truck - which was carrying machines and spare parts - rammed into the container," he said.

"The driver of the second truck, Mohd Shawazrizal Azahar, 38, from Klang, suffered injuries to his face and left leg and has been sent to the Tapah Hospital for treatment," added Supt Wan Azharuddin.

Supt Wan Azharuddin said the cause of the accident was carelessness while stopping a vehicle.

"The case is being investigated under Rule 113 of the Traffic Rules," he said, adding that no arrest was made.

He said all traffic flow has been detoured to exit at the Tapah toll interchange, which was about 1km from the accident's location.

"All motorists heading north are advised to exit at the Tapah toll," he said.

Work to remove the two vehicles from blocking the road is ongoing.
