RM615,000 in food aid for flood victims, says Nancy

BUTTERWORTH: The authorities will send food worth RM615,000 to states that have been affected by floods, says Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

She said the food aid was still in the process of being delivered and it was hoped that it would be sufficient to meet the victims’ needs.

“We have spent RM615,000 on food stock but it’s still insufficient because in Johor alone, over 40,000 (flood victims) are affected.

“We also received a donation of RM50,000 from the National Welfare Foundation (YKN).

“We welcome those who wish to donate and they can do so through YKN (yknm.org.my),” she said during her visit to the Tasek Gelugor Laman Wanita centre here.

Nancy said humanitarian aid from fellow Malaysians was needed as their expenses had exceeded the funding given by the government.

“This can be considered a national crisis. We sympathise with the victims in Johor, Pahang, Melaka and Negri Sembilan. We must provide food, counselling and other means to help them,” she said.
