KULAI: Three people, including two Indonesian women, were arrested during a police raid on premises suspected of operating an online gambling business in Kulai Besar.
Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the raid was conducted by a team from the district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division at about 6.14pm on Friday (Oct 30) under Ops Dadu.
He added the arrests came after a video showing the police raid went viral on a social media platform, Threads.
“In the raid, police seized a mobile phone and RM400 in cash believed to be proceeds from betting activities. An examination of the phone revealed an online gambling application accessed through a portal.
“Preliminary investigations found that the three suspects, including a local male, aged between 26 and 29, admitted to working as counter attendants and handling top-ups for the gambling operation,” he said here on Sunday.
ACP Tan added after the initial 24-hour investigation, the local suspect was released on police bail, while the two Indonesian women were remanded for 14 days to assist investigations into immigration offences after failing to produce valid identification documents.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, while the two women are also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
ACP Tan added police would intensify enforcement operations to curb online gambling activities and urged anyone with information to contact the Kulai district police headquarters hotline at 07-663 2222.
