Floods: 36,000 evacuated nationwide, Johor worst hit


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims continues to increase with almost 36,0000 people evacuated to about 260 temporary relief centres nationwide.

According to Fire and Rescue Department deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Edwin Galan Teruki, Johor continues to be the worst-hit state with more than 32,000 victims followed by Pahang (1,844), Negri Sembilan (1,061), Melaka (99) and Sarawak (43).

"The situation in Sabah has normalised with no victims in any centres," he said, adding that based on data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, rain is expected until Monday (March 6).

Three deaths have been reported so far, all in Johor.
