NIBONG TEBAL: The Education Ministry has made preparations for floods should they occur when students sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, which starts tomorrow and ends on March 15.

Its minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry’s flood operations room and all State Education Departments (JPN) were fully prepared to deal with any flood-related issues during the examination period.

“JPN is prepared, especially with states that are always expected to experience or are even used to facing floods.

“Our schools are also prepared to deal with them (floods) by serving as examination and flood evacuation centres.

“The ministry is also collaborating with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to get equipment ready and make other flood preparations.

“Hopefully, there will be no floods because we want the candidates to face the examination in the safest conditions,” Fadhlina told reporters here yesterday, according to Bernama.

She said this after attending an early schooling aid programme by Nationgate at five national-type Tamil schools in the Jawi state constituency here at SJK(T) Nibong Tebal.

The company donated RM12,000 to 150 students.

Meanwhile, Fadhlina, who is also Nibong Tebal MP, said her ministry had taken note of the SJK(T) Sungai Bakap project, which had been abandoned, causing ire among the parents of pupils there.

Fadhlina said she would look into it to ensure that the construction of the school followed the set schedule.

The project was abandoned a year ago, possibly due to a lack of funding.
