KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Minister has thanked his predecessor Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong for his critical views on the move to digitise driver's licences and road tax information, adding that they would work on any weaknesses.

"I'm thankful to the former transport minister for his caring in contributing his views and opinions. It will be taken into account, considered and improved," said Anthony Loke.
"The Transport Ministry will continue to solidify its digitalisation agenda. This agenda will be continued and we will improve any weaknesses," he added.
Loke said this when speaking to reporters after the launch of the MyRailLife KTM Komuter pass for the disabled and school students at KL Sentral on Thursday (Feb 16).
When debating the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Feb 15), Dr Wee said the data of 33 million Malaysians, including 16 million licences, was at risk due to poor security features in the recently launched MyJPJ application.
He said one's details could be retrieved simply by keying in a person's MyKad identification number.
Dr Wee said he had disagreed with the use of the application when he was the transport minister.
"The Transport Ministry recently launched the Motor Vehicle Licence (e-LKM) and digital Malaysian Driving Licence (e-LMM). The data of all the ministers and deputy ministers can be obtained through just one feature with the MyKad number,” said Dr Wee.
"I can show you how this leakage can happen and if it does, the data of 33 million Malaysians can be accessed by any individual," he added.
In a statement on Feb 10, Loke announced that a pilot project was underway for the digitalisation of road tax and driving licences.
With a digital road tax, Loke said vehicle owners no longer had to display a hard copy of the road tax sticker.
Both digital versions of driving licences and road tax can be applied through the JPJ website at http://public.jpj.gov.my or the MyJPJ app.
Loke also said those who were not ready to go digital could still display their road tax stickers during the interim period until the digitisation phases are fully completed.
