PUTRAJAYA: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has dismissed claims that there is a political motive in the suspension of MyEG Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd as collection agents for the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
At a press conference on Monday (Oct 5), he stressed that the government's decision was based strictly on financial facts, rejecting any corporate ties to political parties as "irrelevant" to his ministerial duties.
"You have to ask them (MyEG). I don't want (this associated) with any political parties. My role here is to treat every company, every agent the same," he told reporters when questioned about MyEG's alleged links to Umno.
"Whomever they are associated with is irrelevant to me. One thing is certain: they have nothing to do with my party. It is not our consideration.
"We look at the facts. The fact is, there is an outstanding amount."
Loke expressed amusement at social media users calling for his resignation over the regulatory enforcement.
"In social media, when action is taken, I am surprised. They are asking me to resign. The one that didn't pay is the company, but the one being told to face action is the minister. What kind of logic is this?" he asked.
The JPJ implemented the suspension with effect from 12.01am today following the companies' reported failure to transfer RM314mil in collected government revenue from May 19 until Sept 30.
