KLANG: Selangor residents have been advised to make good use of the state government’s Saring Selangor 2023 programme to check their health status.

Selangor’s executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said in a statement that the state government has targeted 31,000 people to benefit from the programme.

She added that the Selangor government has allocated RM2.6mil for the programme to reach recipients in the state’s 56 state constituencies.

According to Dr Siti Mariah, the Saring Selangor programme for 2023 offered five categories for screening - the first being non-communicable diseases like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems.

This is followed by colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer and breast cancer.

The three other categories were eye-related problems followed by teeth and ear-related issues.

The final category is physiotherapy, said Dr Siti Mariah.

“The state government urges the residents in Selangor, who have risk factors such as family history, excessive body weight and unhealthy lifestyle among others as well as those who have not been medically diagnosed as having these diseases, to register for the Saring Selangor programme," said Dr Siti Mariah.

She added the Saring Selangor programme in 2022 had received 20,000 registrations and it managed to identify 49% of these as people requiring further consultation and follow-up treatment.

“For 2023, the state government has widened the service scope to three additional categories which are ear screening, teeth checking as well as physiotherapy services," said Dr Siti Mariah.

She said registration can be carried out through the state’s SELangkah application beginning Wednesday (Feb 15).

“Every applicant has to fill up a screening form during the registration so that their background and risk factors can be identified," said Dr Siti Mariah.

She added individuals, who qualify, will receive vouchers to undergo the health screening free of charge at a stipulated time and location.

Dr Siti Mariah said further information regarding the Selangor Saring programme can be found on the Selangor Saring website and those who have issues pertaining to registration can call 1-800-22-6600.
