MACC reopens probe against Negri Islamic Affairs Council

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission will re-investigate allegations of misappropriation of tithes by the Negri Sembilan Islamic Affairs Council (Mains), says its senior director of investigations Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim.

He said although the matter was probed in 2019, it would review the evidence that it has.

"The investigation papers have now been referred back to the deputy public prosecutor and instructions have been issued to carry out further investigations into the resulting issues," he said in a statement.

On Feb 9, the state MACC confirmed that it had probed Mains four years ago but found no alleged misuse of tithes.

State MACC director Awangkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awang Ismail said it had launched an investigation in 2019 but did not find any evidence to suggest there was misappropriation or other wrongdoings.

Awangkok Ahmad said further investigations will, however, be conducted if it receives new leads on the matter.
