Johor, Singapore keen to explore new economic ventures: MB


SINGAPORE: Johor will work closely with Singapore to explore new ventures that can take their economic ties to the next level, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar said Monday (Feb 13), the second day of his working visit to Singapore, where he had a meeting with its Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs) Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman.

“There have been a number of matters discussed, especially those involving bilateral relations.

"As a neighbour, Singapore plays an important role in the growth of the state economy," he said in a Facebook post.

The Machap assemblyman added that he was touched to see how the relationship has remained strong all through the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

“Moving forward, we have agreed to look into (other areas) we can explore together, seeing as we have more than 300,000 people crossing the Causeway each day,” he added.

The meeting was also attended by Johor investment, trade and consumer affairs committee chairman Lee Ting Han; deputy state secretary (Development) Datuk Mohammed Ridha Abd Kadir; and Singapore Consul-General in Johor Baru, Jeevan Singh.

Onn Hafiz is on a three-day working visit that began on Sunday (Feb 12).

This is his third official visit to the island republic since being sworn in as the 19th Mentri Besar on March 15.
