BUTTERWORTH: A total of 1,488 residents at the Taman Bagan Jaya people’s housing project (PPR) here will get free Internet service for nine months.
Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said the free service was offered under the ongoing Jendela@PPR initiative.
"The provision of broadband to every household is part of the ministry's focus.
"It also includes the provision of Internet access to every PPR household in an effort to enhance the standard of living in PPR nationwide," he said on a visit to Taman Bagan Jaya on Monday (Feb 6).
He said the implementation of the Jendela@PPR initiative at 382 units of the PPR here is expected to be completed by next month.
Nga said the Jendela@PPR pilot project, costing about RM22mil, will involve 30 PPR nationwide covering 13,218 units and will benefit approximately 53,000 people from the B40 group.
He said the implementation will involve laying of fibre-optic cables and the installation of routers and modems to provide 30Mbps broadband in each household.
Nga also visited several units at the PPR to check the status of installation works.
