JOHOR BARU: A total of 506 people statewide are still unable to return home due to floods.
The evacuees, from 141 families, are seeking shelter at five temporary flood relief centres in Batu Pahat and Segamat as of 8pm, the state disaster management committee said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 5).
"Batu Pahat is the more affected district where 480 victims from various flood-hit villages such as Kampung Basri, Kampung Parit Terus, Kampung Sri Pasir, Kampung Sri Duyung and Kampung Parit Bangas are unable to return home.
"In Segamat, nine families with 26 evacuees are still seeking shelter at a relief centre as floodwaters in Kampung Seberang Batu Badak have not receded.
"However, the overall situation has improved slightly compared to the 623 evacuees recorded at 4pm Sunday (Feb 5)," it said.
The statement added that showers were being reported in areas such as Johor Baru, Pontian, Segamat, Kluang, Batu Pahat and Kota Tinggi.
"We will continue monitoring the weather despite no continuous heavy rain in Johor being forecasted by the Meteorology Department," it read.
