EIGHTY Indian parents gathered in front of a Tamil school in Kedah to protest the sudden transfer of a well-liked science teacher, Malaysia Makkal Osai reported.

The parents said the transfer of the teacher from the school in Sungai Petani stemmed from a personal vendetta of a state education department officer.

The officer, who was visiting the school in October, apparently spoke harshly to the teachers, causing a female teacher to be hospitalised from stress.

The male teacher and the school parent teacher association, submitted a memorandum to the district education office as a result of this.

PTA chairman M.Nanthakumar, who was present at the protest, claimed the teacher had been transferred to another school as retaliation by the officer, who is understood to be a assistant director at the state level.

The teacher was not even given an official letter but was told of his immediate transfer over the phone, Nantha said.

The parents at the protest said the teacher has been one of the main drivers behind the school achieving 100% pass rate in science in 2019.

An officer from the district education office met with the parents who were protesting and promised to resolve the matter peacefully.

The parents left the area after the officer requested them to disperse.
