Armand Azha to vie for Umno Youth chief post

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah, who is an Umno supreme council member, has announced his intention to contest for the Umno Youth chief post in the upcoming party elections.

"If given a mandate as the leader of Umno Youth, it will be my responsibility to be on the forefront to defend the party from attacks on the ground and social media," the Subang division chief said in a Facebook post.

"The Hebatkan Pemuda (slogan) will be more dynamic and progressive without leaving aside Umno's strength," he added.

In another post, he said his intention to contest for the post had received flak from certain quarters.

"For me this is the norm in politics. It is not easy to satisfy everyone. There are a few more who appear to have offered themselves for (the post). I celebrate the party's democracy in the elections," he said.

Armand Azha said he would fulfill his responsibilities if bestowed with the opportunity to lead the youth wing.

"I don't have any interest in personal attacks or to bring down the image of any party during a campaign. Politics must be more dynamic and progressive and gear towards mature politics. No one is perfect but we have to try to improve our weaknesses," he said.

He said he is more interested in talking about the direction of the party and its policies.

"I am open to receiving views, proposals, criticism and anything related to the future of Umno Youth," he said.
