Gerakan holds CNY open house in style with Bersatu and PAS leaders


CHERAS: Opposition leaders from Perikatan Nasional attended the Gerakan Chinese New Year open house dressed in festive red here on Sunday (Jan 22) with much merriment.

Perikatan Nasional chairman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin were welcomed by Gerakan president Dominic Lau to the accompaniment of a lion dance performance and firecrackers.

This was the first time a top PAS leader had attended a Chinese New Year open house of Gerakan.

The Perikatan leaders then accepted "ong" before doing a "lao sang" tossing together to symbolise "abundance" for the coalition.

"We hope that this Chinese New Year will bring more prosperity for Perikatan Nasional," said Muhyiddin in a short speech.

Muhyiddin, who was dressed in a maroon shirt and Abdul Hadi, who was dressed in a red vest then watched the performances of drums, mask changing and traditional dances before they signed off using calligraphy and presented money packets to orphans.

The event was attended by Perikatan leaders from the various parties and by about 500 people from all walks of life and from various political parties.
